As of November 2007, the QLS adopted the Australian National Accreditation Standards for mediators, thereby requiring mediator practitioners to comply with the national standards in order to be accepted onto the QLS panel. Since that time, a highly qualified group of Queensland lawyer mediators have attained national accreditation and continue to meet the ongoing requirements. "

NEW DEFACTO PROPERTY LEGISLATION: 
Legislation has been passed by Federal Parliament which will bring separating defacto couples under the Family Law Act. The amendments will commence on 1 March 2009.  The new legislation will allow defacto couples (including same sex couples) to have their property and spouse maintenance disputes heard in the Family Courts rather than the State Supreme and District Courts.  If this legislation affects you it is recommended that you obtain legal advice before taking any step which might affect your rights under the new legislation.
